About us

Bilingual education at Hilaris

At Hilaris, being bilingual means covering the curriculum in Polish and in English alike. English is taught at an extended level, so that our pupils master it well enough to communicate freely and confidently.

This whole page is bilingual — the switch above changes its language.

Pupils of Hilaris Primary School during a lesson

English is not just another subject here. It is the language we learn in.

How it works

Three principles that shape the way we work with language.

It increases how often pupils meet English at school — both spoken and written.

It introduces English into subject teaching gradually, step by step.

It builds confidence in using subject-specific vocabulary in selected topics.

One goal, two stages

The goal is fluency, but our approach adapts to the age of the pupils. Tap a subject to see a sample lesson.

In Polish

Obieg wody w przyrodzie

Woda paruje z oceanów, unosi się i skrapla w chmurach. Potem wraca na ziemię jako deszcz — i cały cykl zaczyna się od nowa.

The Water Cycle

Water evaporates from the oceans, rises and condenses into clouds. Then it falls back to the ground as rain — and the whole cycle begins again.

Cambridge certificates in our pupils’ hands

In October 2025, pupils from Years 3–8 received their certificates from their English teachers. Our pupils sit the exams every year.

Small language groups

For language lessons the class is split into groups — so every child speaks in every lesson, not once every few weeks.
