Hilaris Independent Bilingual Preschool

Preschool groups

At Hilaris Preschool we care for children aged 2½–3, 4, 5 and 6 (the oldest in the reception class). Four groups, four stages — and one place where a child can stay from the first goodbye at the door right up to Year 1.

The journey through preschool

Children move through four groups with us — and then, if they wish, across the threshold into Hilaris Primary School.

Toddler Group

“Little Bees”

Their very first preschool. Here everything happens slowly, one step at a time: getting used to the room, the new faces and the rhythm of the day. Two teachers for no more than sixteen children means every little one has an adult within arm’s reach.

Middle Group

“Little Clouds”

The age of endless questions. Children know the preschool well by now, so the real fun begins: group projects, first friendships, experiments, and English that becomes part of the activities rather than sitting alongside them.

Older Group

“Ladybirds”

The year when children start to feel older — and want to be trusted. More independence, more responsibility, their first performances in front of an audience, and ever more confident English in full sentences.

Reception class

“Little Bugs”

The last year before school — and the gentlest start to Year 1 we can give a child. Reception children already know the building, the teachers and the way we work, so the step from preschool to Hilaris Primary School is hardly a step at all.

  • getting ready for Year 1

Sixteen children.
Two adults.

Group size is not an organisational detail — it decides how many times a day someone notices that your child doesn’t understand something, is frightened, or has just done something for the very first time.
